Add or Delete Family Accounts
With BT Yahoo! Internet you get a main account
(usually the person who pays the bill), sometimes referred to as the primary
account, and ten additional accounts for other members of the family, sometimes
referred to as sub-accounts.
The main account is created when you first order BT
Yahoo! Internet and it is only the main account holder that can add or delete
the extra family accounts.
To add or delete a family account you must be signed
in as the main account holder and complete the following steps:
1.
From the BT Yahoo!
Internet homepage at http://bt.yahoo.com
click on My
Account (which is in the top-right corner of the page). You can also click
on the "Browse BT Yahoo!" button and click directly on My Account in the
top-right corner.
2.
You may be asked to
verify your password for security reasons, if so simply re-enter the same
password you entered to log onto BT Yahoo! Internet.
3.
On the My Account
screen you will see all the family accounts in the Sub Accounts area as shown
below. If no family accounts have been set up this area will be blank. If you
are not signed-in as the main account holder you will not see this section on
the My Account page.
To add an account:
4.
Click on the "Create
New Sub Account Button"
5.
On the "Create a new
Sub Account" page complete all the details in the fields.
6.
When selecting a
username you only need to choose a name to go in front of "@btinternet.com"
which will be automatically added to the username and don't use capital
letters. Details of the format of your username and password are shown on the
right of the page.
7.
The fields must all be
completed, they are all used to personalise you online experience, the postcode
for example will personalise the weather report you see.
8.
Once this page is
completed click the Next button.
9.
If any details are
incomplete you will be prompted to re-enter the information at the relevant
field. If the username has already been taken by someone else then you will see
a message that says "Cannot create, account already exists". If this happens
try another username and click Next. Try and avoid common usernames (i.e. john@btinternet.com) as these will have
been taken, try and include your surname to make it less common or add numbers.
10. If successful you will then see a message
to configure an email account for this user. It is recommended that you click
"Yes".
11. You will then see a Congratulations page
and you can then log in as that new user or return to the My Account site where
you will see your new user in the Sub Accounts section. On returning to My
Account you may be asked to verify your password for security reasons, if so
simply re-enter the same password you entered to log onto BT Yahoo! Internet.
To delete an account:
12. From the My Account homepage click on the
delete word underneath the user you wish to delete.
13. You will be prompted to confirm that you
wish to delete this account by clicking on the confirmation box and the
clicking on the "Yes, Delete Sub Account" button.
14. You will then receive confirmation that
the account has been deleted and you can click on the link back to My Account
where you will see the account has been removed from the Sub Accounts section.

To set up parental controls you must first be using

straightforward; click on the Parental Controls button on the toolbar or type
in http://bt.ypc.yahoo.com and you will
see the screen shown below:

access level you want to give that member of the family. The level of
protection is reduced in steps from full access down to kids which is very
restricted access.
After clicking "Save Settings" you will then be able

are. You can also turn on additional functionality:

controls set to request permission to access sites or have contact with people
on instant messenger that are blocked. You can review and grant or decline
access as you see fit.

Activities recorded include web sites visited and instant messaging activities.
When you have finished setting the levels of access
click on Back to Settings Summary and you will be returned to the Parental
Controls main page.
The next thing you must do to make these settings
effective is to ensure your computer is activated for parental controls. This
is simply done by clicking the "Activate" button on the parental controls page,
signing-out and rebooting the computer.
Once the computer has been shutdown and powered back
on a padlock icon will be loaded into the system tray (normally in the bottom
right corner of your computer as shown below:

Single Sign-on with User Chooser
Part of the installation of the BT Yahoo! Internet
software is the ability for each member of the family to have their own
one-click sign-in to the Internet. This feature stores your username (which is

and click Sign In and you will be connected to the Internet and all your common
services will be started automatically for you (these include email, instant
messenger, pop-up ad blocker, parental controls and your personalised BT Yahoo!
homepage).
This feature is called the User Chooser, as it simply
enables you to choose your name from the list of users on your account, and
appears after you double-click on the BT Yahoo! Internet icon on your desktop
or Start menu. This screen is shown below:
·
Simply click on the
member of the family and enter your password and you will be signed in on one
click.
·
The very first time
you see this screen you will just see the main account holder and the "Other
User" icon. If you had other accounts don't worry they will be displayed but
you will need to click on the main account holder icon (which is always the
first one) and sign-in. As you add more accounts you will see them
automatically appear in this screen the next time you log-in.
·
The "Other User" icon
is used by non-family members, so if you are visiting friends house you can
click on Other User and log in to your personal BT Yahoo! Internet service.
"Other User" requires both usernam and password and remember that the username
is the full email address (i.e. john.smith@btinternet.com not just john.smith).
·
If you have forgotten
your password then simply click the "Forgotten your Password" link and follow
the screens to reset your password.
·
If you have a Yahoo!
username because you used Yahoo! services before taking BT Yahoo! Internet
then you can simply enter your Yahoo! username and password at this screen as
well.
·
You can also save your
password and sign into the BT Yahoo! Messenger automatically. To automatically
sign in to messenger, simply click on the "Sign In to Messenger" box.
To save your password, simply click on the box "Save My Password".
·
To change your user
icon, click on the current icon associated with your name and then select
"Change my Icon." You will go to the "Choose my Icon" page,
where you will be able to select what icon you wish to associate with a
particular username. The icon will be displayed and saved once you sign in to
BT Yahoo! Internet.
·
If there is just one
user of the Internet from your computer then you can choose to skip this step
by selecting "Setup Auto Sign-In". This will bypass the User Chooser
and automatically sign you in.
·
If you have forgotten
your password then simply click the "Forgotten your Password" link and follow
the screens to reset your password.

Instant Messenger
Instant messages are used to communicate with friends
on the Internet. They are similar to email because they consist of text that
you type back and forth. However, unlike email, you don't have to wait hours or
days for an answer. As the name suggests, messages you send usually arrive instantly.
Messenger allows you to send instant messages. Use
Messenger to see when friends are online and chat back and forth with them,
like having a real conversation. If you have a webcam your friends can even
see you as well. It is a great way to connect friends and families from
anywhere in the world at no extra cost.
You must install the BT Yahoo! Internet software to
use Instant Messenger (please refer to the Install
or Re-install BT Yahoo! Internet Software section in this guide).
Once installed you will have a BT Yahoo! Messenger icon on your desktop and in
you computer's Start menu.
Double click on this icon and the BT Yahoo! Messenger
window will appear as shown below:
You will see which of your friends is on the Internet
because they will have a smiley face next to them. In the example above only Dannii
is online. To chat to Dannii simply double click on her name and a chat window
appears as shown below:
Note the drop down box "Send As:" it is recommended
that you always use the profile name that is automatically created when the
user was first created so that that those people you chat with don't know your
full email address.
Simply type a message in the bottom window and wait
for a reply, your conversation will be shown in the top box .
If one or both of you have webcams simply click the
webcam button and a video window will appear, each of you will have to accept
the others invitation to see their webcam. If both of you have a high speed
broadband connection then the Super Webcam service will start automatically.
Super webcam significantly improves the quality of the video image with twice
the resolution and 20 times faster refresh rate than standard webcam
connections.
You can also send a file by clicking the Send File button
and set up a voice call if you both have speakers and microphones connected to
your computer so that you can talk to each other.
If you use User Chooser and the BT Yahoo! browser you
will have Instant Messenger setup in the browser's sidebar (see the Sidebar section of this Guide).

it harder for other people to find you and protects your system from outside
attacks
As part of BT
Yahoo! Internet we have provided you with a free firewall. To install your
firewall you will need to follow these instructions. If you have a home network
of more than one computer connected to the Internet you must do this on each

4.
From My Services click

Changing the order and layout of content modules on
your BT Yahoo! Home Page
You can customise your Home Page so that the content
appears exactly where you want it.
To change the layout and order of content modules,
click the "Change Layout" link that appears in the upper-left hand
area of your Home Page. You will be brought to a page displaying the names of
the specific content modules you have selected, organised by which modules
appear in the wide column and which appear in the narrow column. To move a
module up or down, simply select the module and then click on the up or down
arrow to the right of the particular column. When you are done, click the
button that says "Finished."
Another easy way to change your Home Page layout is
by selecting the "edit" link that appears in the upper right hand
corner in every content module on your page. When you click on the link, a menu
pops-up containing up and down arrows. Simply click on the up or down arrow to
move that particular module to wherever you would like to see it on the page.
You can also click "Remove" to remove that particular module from
your page
Changing the colour theme
You can choose the colour theme for your page that
you like best. To do this, click on the "Change Colours" link that
appears in the upper-left hand area of your Home Page.
You will be brought to a page listing the many colour
themes available. When you see a colour theme you like, simply click the
"Use this theme" link next to it, and then click the
"Finished" button to return to your Home Page.
